# August Was a Heavy Month in the AMFI Data. 1,234 Schemes Renamed and 37 ISINs Swapped. If You Join on Scheme Code You Are Fine.

August was a heavy month in the AMFI mutual fund data. Names changed, some spellings changed, and a set of ISINs were replaced. If everything you do joins on AMFI scheme code, you are good. If you are searching or filtering on fund names, or on ISINs, better take a look.

Quick points below, details further down.

- **37 schemes had their ISIN swapped** for a different one, at UTI, DSP, Kotak, Invesco and LIC, fourteen of them ETFs.
- **On names, 1,234 schemes were renamed over the month**, 942 of them on 26 August alone, which was the SEBI deadline for re-filing under the new categorisation. However, name changes continue to flow in still.
- **There are spelling issues sitting alongside that**, likely to get corrected soon.

SEBI circular: [Categorization and Rationalization of Mutual Fund Schemes](https://www.sebi.gov.in/legal/circulars/feb-2026/categorization-and-rationalization-of-mutual-fund-schemes_99983.html)

My earlier post on the renaming and recategorisation: [tigzig.com/post/sebi-mf-categorisation-changes-jul2026](https://www.tigzig.com/post/sebi-mf-categorisation-changes-jul2026)

## Names and spellings

**1,234 schemes were renamed over the month**, 942 of them on 26 August alone, which was the SEBI deadline for re-filing under the new categorisation. Low Duration became Ultra Short to Short Term, Savings became Money Market, Equity and Debt became Aggressive Hybrid. A search saved against an old name will come back empty. See my post on name change and recategorisation, linked above.

**There are spelling issues sitting alongside that.** AMFI's file carries five spellings of children's fund, the apostrophe in different places and one version with none at all. SBI's renamed hybrid fund reads AGGRESIVE with a single s, across four plans and about Rs 83,000 crore. I would expect that one to be corrected before long, and until it is, a search on the correct spelling will not find it.

## The ISIN changes

**37 schemes had their ISIN swapped** for a different one, at UTI, DSP, Kotak, Invesco and LIC, fourteen of them ETFs.

**Two more had an old value of only eleven characters**, so those are repairs.

**None of the 39 were renamed**, and I have not had a chance to dig into why it happened.

**The LIC one is worth seeing.** AMFI now publishes INF767K01SM1 for LIC MF Gold ETF. The code it replaced, INF397L01554, is an IDBI code, and it still resolves today, to IDBI Gold Exchange Traded Fund, whose data stops on 28 July 2023. LIC took over IDBI's fund business and the fund changed house that weekend, with LIC's record picking up on 31 July. So an old ISIN there does not come back empty. It comes back as a different fund with a full price history.

ISIN changes do happen, and I cover it in my earlier post here: [An ISIN Checker for When a Mutual Fund Lookup Fails. And Why One Fund Carries Ten Identifiers](https://www.tigzig.com/post/isin-checker-mutual-fund-identifiers-aug2026), 6 August 2026.

ISIN checker here: [isin.tigzig.com](https://isin.tigzig.com)

If you put in an old ISIN, the checker will usually still find the fund and show you the current one. In a case like the LIC gold ETF above it will find the IDBI fund instead, because that ISIN really was IDBI's.
