Boris Cherny (creator and head of Claude Code at Anthropic) argues that engineering, product, design and data science are melting into one kind of role, and the work now maps to archetypes rather than job titles: prototyper, builder, sweeper, grower, maintainer. His team-mix view is that the archetype blend shifts with product stage (pre-PMF leans on prototyper/builder/sweeper; strong-PMF on sweeper/grower/maintainer).
The author sees the same in small businesses adopting Claude Code and Cowork: marketing and finance staff build their own automations, builders turn those into production tools and maintain them full-stack regardless of where they started, and data scientists run more models, better validated, and hand prototypes to builders. Work moves across the team; titles matter less and less.
