What are the expense ratios and risk bands of India's SIF funds?

They vary widely, and you can see all of them in one free file. Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs) are SEBI's category between mutual funds and PMS. The SIF scheme details file covers all 126 SIF scheme variants of 34 funds, with fund managers, launch dates, benchmark, risk band, TER and BER.

Expense ratios. The base expense ratio (BER) is the fund house's own fee. In the latest filings it runs from:

The total TER moves every day because a SIF's TER includes that day's trading costs. The BER is the steadier number to compare across funds.

Risk bands. The scale runs from 1, the lowest risk, to 5, the highest. Of the 29 SIF funds with a scheme document, 12 are in band 5, 7 in band 3, 3 in band 2 and 7 in band 1. The release note reports that 17 of those 29 now carry a different band from the one they launched with, and 15 of them moved lower. Several equity long-short funds launched at band 5 and are now at 1, 2 or 3. The file has each fund's current band as filed.
