MFPRO Scheme Explorer is Live. Cross-Tab 38,000+ India Mutual Fund Schemes, and Watch the SEBI Re-Categorisation Happen in the Daily Files.
Published: July 30, 2026
Want to see the actual distribution of Indian mutual funds? With new mandated SEBI categories and names. How many active? by category / sub-category? By AMC? stale, closed, active etc etc..
I have set up an interactive Scheme Explorer on MFPRO where you can cross-tab the entire universe of 38,000+ schemes. You can slice and pivot scheme counts by clean categories, subcategories, AMC, plans, and options. And also apply filters as you want ....
For the SEBI category and name changes (Feb '26 Circular, last date to implement for AMC's is late Aug'26) ....read more here: SEBI has revised mutual fund categorisation and introduced a new fund type
What the re-categorisation looks like in the daily files
And it is already flowing through AMFI's daily NAV files, and since MFPRO now tracks the latest filing, you can watch it live.
367 schemes changed their category or name in a single day, including 91 scheme name changes as fund houses rename to match the new true-to-label rule.
The renames are exactly what the circular asked for: Groww Dynamic Bond Fund is now Groww Dynamic Term Fund, ITI Ultra Short Duration Fund is now ITI Ultra Short Term Fund, ICICI Prudential Equity Arbitrage Fund is now just ICICI Prudential Arbitrage Fund.
Some renames go beyond the mechanical: Canara Robeco Consumer Trends Fund and HDFC Non-Cyclical Consumer Fund are both now simply Consumption Fund.
The first two Life Cycle Funds are live, Zerodha Life Cycle Fund 2036 and 2041, the new target-maturity category that starts equity heavy and shifts to debt as the year approaches.
Try pivoting the distribution yourself

Some changes that caught my eye
ICICI Prudential Thematic Advantage Fund (FOF) is now ICICI Prudential Aggressive Hybrid Active FOF
The new FoF naming convention is visible too: Quantum Gold Savings Fund is now Quantum Gold ETF FOF, and Motilal Oswal Asset Allocation FOF is now Motilal Oswal Multi Asset Passive Fund of Fund. The name now tells you whether the underlying funds are active or passive, which the old names never did.
Children's funds and retirement funds are on their way out as a category. SEBI discontinued Solution Oriented schemes, so the 143 active ones stop taking fresh subscriptions and will be merged into similar schemes. If you hold one, watch for the merger notice from your fund house.
UTI Liquid Cash Plan, a name from another era, is now simply UTI Liquid Fund.
Of the 38,000+ schemes in the database, only about 8,600 are active. Roughly three out of four schemes that ever existed have matured or merged, most of them fixed maturity plans from the 2006 to 2013 era.
One quirk I spotted
Aditya Birla Sun Life Gold ETF is currently showing under "Equity ETF" in AMFI's daily file. The fund itself has not changed, it still holds gold. This looks like a transient filing error during the re-categorization rush and will most likely be corrected in a subsequent filing. We publish the data as filed, so you can see it in the Explorer today, and you will see it flip back when it gets corrected.
