This page documents known data-quality quirks in VIGIL and how they are being addressed. VIGIL pulls from multiple independent NSE datasets, each of which records a company name as it was at the time of filing - so the same company can occasionally appear under slightly different names.

Company name variations
When a company changes its name (through a demerger, rebrand, or a formatting change like "Ltd" vs "Limited" or capitalisation), older records keep the old name while newer records use the new one. Because VIGIL pulls from multiple independent NSE datasets, the same company can appear under different names - occasionally showing up as two entries in search.
Current impact (as of 19 February 2026):
- Credit Ratings: 6 ISINs have records under multiple company names - e.g. India Grid Trust / IndiGrid Infrastructure Trust (rename), HDB Financial Services Ltd / Limited (formatting), Bank Of India / Bank of India (capitalisation).
- Insider Trading: 9 symbols have records under multiple names - e.g. DBREALTY (D B Realty / Valor Estate), AFFLE (Affle India / Affle 3i), FUSION (Fusion Micro Finance / Fusion Finance).
These numbers change as new filings arrive and more companies undergo corporate actions.
Note on Tata Motors
Searching "Tata Motors" returns multiple results - this is correct. In October 2025 Tata Motors executed a demerger into two separate listed companies: Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited (PV + EV + JLR, symbol TMPV) and a new Tata Motors Limited (commercial vehicles, symbol TMCV). These are genuinely different companies with different ISINs.
Fix underway
VIGIL is building a company master table that uses the ISIN (a permanent security identifier) as the single source of truth. This will unify all name variants for the same company across every data source, correctly handle renames and demergers, and eliminate duplicate search results.
