Long programmes. What he takes on is meant to be live and in use within a few weeks. His longest project so far ran about eight weeks. Something planned to run over many months, for example building out a whole analytics layer and then an AI layer on top of it, is not a good match.
Enterprise, in two separate senses. He does not do delivery management, project management, strategy decks or pre-sales material, because all of the work is hands-on and technical and he does it himself. Separately, he also does not take enterprise-scale implementations, which tend to run far longer than a few weeks once procurement, approvals and internal process are counted in. That is a choice about how he prefers to work rather than a comment on the work itself.
Work whose result cannot be seen. He leans towards projects where the impact shows up soon after go-live and someone can point at it. Things that are good to know but hard to measure are usually not worth what it costs to have him build them.
Work needing very deep domain expertise. Some projects need real depth in a particular domain to get right, and someone who has that depth will do a better job of it. This is a soft line rather than a hard one, since plenty of projects need only a working understanding of the domain.
Fixed deadlines and rush jobs. He works to his own schedule, which in practice is fast, but hard deadlines do not fit. The same applies to long-running clients, so it is a consistent filter rather than a negotiation.
Fixed-price project quotes. The model is hourly, prepaid and sprint-capped, with an approved hour ceiling per sprint. See how much he charges and what working with him looks like.
One thing that is not a reason to rule yourself out: volume. Large datasets and heavy processing jobs sit comfortably within what he does. The public data APIs at https://www.tigzig.com/apis run on multi-GB and multi-hundred-million-row backends.
What does fit is on is my project a good fit, and the full working model is at https://www.tigzig.com/how-i-work. If you are unsure, say what the work involves in a first email to amar@harolikar.com and he will tell you straight away.
