August 2026 Portfolios Are Live on MFPRO Composition. Eleven Month-End Snapshots Across 24 of India's Larger Equity Funds.

August 2026 portfolios are now on the MFPRO composition tool, which takes it to eleven month-end snapshots across 24 of India's larger equity funds.
You can use it to compare two months side by side, either for a single fund or a group of funds, or against an index. I use the same tool to run my own analytics and I can share from experience that composition analytics can get fairly complicated fairly quickly, so a bit of judgment is needed as you run your cuts.
Entries and exits are tagged, and there are separate columns for the change in market value and the change in quantity, and these need to be looked at together as market actions can cause seemingly odd movement. A bonus issue or a face value split multiplies the quantity on its own with no buying involved, so the quantity change and the market value change stop lining up. Every column sorts, so the outliers come up quickly.

The data nuances and the ISIN remapping
The data nuances, the ISIN remapping and the validations are all on the Methodology tab. A few of them here.
ISINs move. A face value split gives a company a new ISIN and the old line stops, so read the raw files and you get an exit and a new entry for the same company on the same day. The remapping is done each month.
A portfolio file is not only shares. There is a tail of short term debt at the bottom and it can run to dozens of rows, because a fund holds the same bank's certificate of deposit at several maturity dates and every maturity is a separate instrument with its own ISIN. Left as they come they crowd out the shares, so they are grouped.
Everything that is not a listed Indian share shows as four rows. Foreign stocks, liquidity which is TREPS and repos, debt which is certificates of deposit and commercial paper and government bonds, and others which is cash and net receivables. Each row opens to show every line under it by name with its value.
Foreign stocks sit in their own row and are not mixed into cash, which surprises people. Parag Parikh Flexi Cap had 11.1 per cent of its August portfolio there, around 16,300 crore, and opening that row gives Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon and Meta.

251 of the 264 fund-months match, and the 13 that do not are listed with the amount and the reason.
Eleven of them are one house that leaves derivatives out of its own printed grand total while the tool keeps them in, so our number comes out higher by somewhere between 0.19 and 0.88 per cent. For August the gap is 348 crore and it is a single stock future.
Two are a different house where the printed grand total is a typed in cell rather than a sum formula, so their printed figure is short by about 15 lakh in one month and 84 lakh in the other, against a portfolio of 1.2 lakh crore. The arithmetic error is in their workbook.
Cash is where the houses differ. Some put cash and TREPS inside the holdings list, so the total at the bottom is already the whole fund. Others print a securities total first and cash on a line below it, and that total is short by whatever the fund is holding in cash. We take the net assets figure in both cases, so a percentage on screen is always a share of the whole fund.
